Dawn the Clown

By Dan on June 04, 2015 12:10 PM

I forgot to post updates about my shoots with Angelia and Cat, go check those images out if you haven't seen them!  But last night I got to shoot with Dawn so here is a front page glimpse into that one!

The Light Fantastic Teaser

By Dan on March 28, 2015 5:13 PM

Aaron Haiduk is a fellow light painter in Denver who works a completely opposite schedule from me. We've been trying to get together for ages and last week we finally did.  He got a shot of me, I got a shot of him, and I imposed upon him to be the body for a concept shot I had for an event I'm shooting in early April.

Robin

By Dan on March 22, 2015 5:11 PM

Synergistic creative energy is a wonderful thing.  I recently met Robin and we've hung out a few times.  This particular time we stepped into the studio and made a few pieces of light painting art.  This is one of my favorite shots in a very long time!

Mar

By Dan on March 13, 2015 5:08 PM

Mar is one of the best artists and coolest people I know.  She's gender bendy and challenges people's preconceived notions about everything.  And, like honey badger, she just don't give a fuck.

We shot in the lower level of the artist co-op that she's involved with, Cabal Enterprises.  This is one of the shots:

Camera Rotation Tool

By Dan on March 08, 2015 4:57 PM

So I bought a really cool device from the UK, a Camera Rotation Tool from Alan Thompson.  Essentially the shutter stays open, even if covered, and you rotate the camera around the optical axis, exposing multiple times as you go.  Here's a sample!

David Quakenbush's Vortex

By Dan on March 06, 2015 4:00 PM

I met David Quakenbush through the Denver Light Painting Facebook group and we've done a little work together.  He has put together a light vortex that involves a live projection feedback loop and dancers with lights.  Check out his work here and if you get a chance to see him at a First Friday his studio is upstairs at 841 Santa Fe.

This is a long exposure shot of Mary Cates dancing in the vortex:

Light Writing Contest

By Dan on February 20, 2015 8:52 AM

Light Painting Brushes is having a contest that ends tomorrow with the theme of "Light Writing".  I needed to contribute something.  I got my new camera rotation tool from London and decided to mix it up a bit.  Cat was my model (along with me, thanks for fighting through being sick!) and Jeff helped out with a second set of hands.

Blacktop Choppers

By Dan on February 20, 2015 8:49 AM

Matt asked me to do some shots of a new bike he had been working on.  We got Chrissi in to model with it and this is my favorite shot of the night!

Viking Party

By Dan on February 20, 2015 8:48 AM

I took my camera to a viking party two weekends ago.  This is one of the shots I got with lots more in the Light Painting gallery.
