Fallen Rider Fund - Katie

By Dan on September 11, 2007 9:27 AM

One of the Mile High Madness riders who JUST moved here from California for a new job was involved in an accident this past weekend. He wasn't even riding, he was hit by bike that high-sided after a racer lost it. What a sucky way to get hurt.

All proceeds from this print in 2007 will go to his recovery fund and everything past 2007 will go to a general fallen-riders fund care of the treasurer of MHM.

Buy the print with no words on the side, 12x18

Buy the MHM version of the print, 11x14

This is a piece I did of Katie based on a picture by Pete's Photoshop.  You can also learn more about Mile High Madness.

Free Lithium Picnic

By Dan on September 11, 2007 9:21 AM

A colleague of mine, photographer Lithium Picnic, is currently being sued by Suicide Girls and it's BS. I support his position and despise the business practices put into play by Suicide Girls, not only in this case but in others. To think I liked them once upon a time.

This is a picture I did based on one of Picnic's shots featuring his wife Apnea. (this was done with permission) Prints of this piece are for sale through his online store with 100% of all profits going to his legal defense fund.

I posted the photo of this shot earlier on my blog but I think this version might be cooler.  Click the image to see it larger in the gallery.

Zelda

By Dan on July 21, 2007 8:05 AM

Zelda was a friend-of-a-friend from Madison, WI.  I'd never met her before our shooting day and we'd only traded a few emails.  She was down for whatever and I went shopping at the hardware store because, well, where else do you find fashion accessories?

Prettiest Girl in the Morgue

By Dan on July 18, 2007 8:49 AM

Last night I went to Netherworld for poker.  I hadn't seen Natalie since, well, a couple years ago and she was hanging out there with her boyfriend and Crystal.  We did some fantastic work together a long time ago and I was pleased to hear that she remembers it as fondly as I do.

The last time we shot it was because she wanted to enter the Prettiest Girl In The Morgue competition.  There ended up being 650 entries and we took fifth place!  Not only that but the four ahead of us were hack pictures and mostly involved nude girls in bathtubs with fake blood, they weren't even DEAD!

This is one of our submissions.  Click it to see the larger version in my gallery.

Separated Shoulder

By Dan on July 16, 2007 2:31 PM

This past Wednesday I scored a goal in my hockey league, extending my scoring streak to six games.  This one guy, the same one who was really choppy on me the first time we played them kept being a dick.  He took an early penalty attempting to defend against me.

At the start of the third period I came out of my zone to try to block a dump-in.  Turns out it was the same guy.  I swear he stepped into me as I tried to get around him because I'm good enough not to collide with a stationary target.  In any case, we collide and I'm sent to the ice.  When I hit I take the impact in my left shoulder.  I can't get up.

After having someone else tie my shoes for me after the game (around midnight) I drove home (stick shift with turbo, one armed) and attempted a painful night's sleep.  The next day I went into urgent care and had xrays done.  My shoulder wasn't broken or fractured but I HAD separated it, first-degree.

So I'm off the ice for at least three weeks, maybe four.  It's been a pretty miserable five days since.  As of today I'm probably at about 70% motion with it but about 10% strength.

On the one hand, it kind of sucks.  On the other hand, the times when I wasn't getting injured were times when I wasn't doing anything at all.  So this is what is.  I can't say I'm thrilled about it but I'm taking it in stride.

I have just posted about 80 pictures of your favorite band, The Red Elvises, from last night's show.   Check out the gallery by clicking the shot below.

The Red Elvises

By Dan on July 02, 2007 4:49 AM

Saw the Red Elvises last night for, I think, the fifth time.   Great show, as always.  Their keyboardist continues to rock it hard and they picked up a guitarist who totally wails!

Here is a shot from last night's show...  Click for a larger version.

Flyer from May 2005

By Dan on June 30, 2007 12:52 PM

This is a handout I gave out at my shows a couple years ago.  The photo is all done in-camera with a long-exposure, shot at the original Cage Studio.

The figure (and hovering ghostly shape) is Natalie.
